Woema originated from the merger of Woema and MoWood. The fusion combines the expertise of both companies, simplifies the corporate structure, and provides more transparency and clarity to their clients. Simon Suys and Nils Detemmerman reached out to align Woema's visual identity with the new mission and vision. With a focus on CLT (cross-laminated timber) and sustainable wood construction, and a new slogan 'Houtbegaafd bouwen' (Building with Wood Wisdom), Woema positions itself as a sustainable partner. Woema pushes boundaries in the design phase, preparation, and execution. Technical expertise, precise planning, short implementation time, respect, and clear communication are at the core.
CLT, or cross-laminated timber, is a wood product manufactured by stacking layers of wood crosswise and bonding them with structural adhesives. The resulting panel has enhanced strength, stability, and stiffness. CLT is commonly used in construction for walls, floors, and roofs, providing a sustainable and versatile alternative to traditional building materials. It promotes the use of wood, a renewable resource, and is known for its structural efficiency.
To emphasize Woema's expertise in CLT, I designed a logo that visually represents this technique. The 'W' as the glue between the lines above and below proved to be a perfect graphic translation. I strategically opted for blue to distinguish Woema from its competitors. A deliberate move to underscore Woema's forward-thinking ethos, digitizing production preparation and design processes and their commitment to technological advancement and efficiency. I chose blue to pave the way for a green future.
The business cards basically designed themselves. In reference to the way CLT is made, I had a sheet of Curious Matter Goya White paper duplexed with a sheet of Adiron Blue. The logo was laser-cut from the blue sheet, making the effect even more pronounced.
Curious Matter is a paper that, thanks to treatment with potato starch, acquires a unique, rough texture – almost a soft kind of sandpaper. A stylish and robust card that serves as a great conversation starter.
