The origin of the name Blue Lines? We get that question quite often. Here's the story: on an ordinary evening – we're talking 2003 – the members of Massive Attack give us a call. They express their desire to dedicate their debut album to us. "But we don't even have a company name yet!" "It will be Blue Lines from now on." Click, the call ends. And just like that, Blue Lines is born.
I snagged the above from the Blue Lines website, and I'm not in the mood to verify if it's 100% accurate. However, the briefing for the new visual identity was something like: "We want a cool symbol as a logo. A bit like the iconography Massive Attack uses in their shows. We want a symbol that could also grace the cover of a Massive Attack album." It's quite fitting that the album was practically the soundtrack of my teenage years.
